What Turkey IS

When you hear the word “turkey,” what comes to mind? Maybe it’s Thanksgiving? Maybe it’s a deli sandwich? Perhaps it’s the name you called your little brother while you were growing up? Well, there are certainly a lot of things the word turkey can be, but we’re going to tell you what it is not.

If you’ve ever been on a low-fat, high-protein, or no carb diet, turkey may have been included as a part of your meals or snack choices. Turkey is definitely not high in carbohydrates or fat. Turkey is not a poor choice when you’re trying to eat healthy.

In fact, turkey is high-protein, low-fat, and filled with potassium, iron, zinc and B vitamins. A serving size is 3 and a half ounces, or the size of your fist, or a deck of cards. While dark meat and turkey skin are certainly not the most healthy part of turkey, the white mean is lean, is low in fat, and has just 120 calories per serving.

At Perko’s Farm Fresh, we offer a number of menu items that include this health-conscious fare. For lunch, and around just 600 calories, try our Hot Turkey Sandwich, served with mashed potatoes and gravy. So come on in and enjoy a Thanksgiving-like feast, without all the fat.
