5 star reviews – a common occurrence

5-starsAfter living only a mile and a half away for the past six months, I finally made it over to Perko’s. I can’t believe what I’d been missing!

The interior of the restaurant is quaint, and larger than it looks from the outside. It’s looks a bit like an iconic mountain lodge, with small pine trees and deer antlers on the walls. I am not sure how much of this was their decoration for Christmas, though.

The staff is very courteous and attentive. My coffee cup never emptied, and I drink a lot of coffee very quickly.

Among all these great qualities, the food is the real seller for me. I went for breakfast and had the Mother Lode omelet, which comes with bacon, mushrooms, avocado and two types of cheese (cheddar and jack). It was fluffy and perfectly cooked, with excellent ingredients.

It normally comes with potatoes (hash browns or home fries, I assume), but for an extra dollar I upgraded to a potato pancake. This was most definitely the right decision. A HUGE potato pancake with sour cream and chives was set before me, and it was to die for.

I had the additional option of pancakes, toast or a blueberry muffin in addition to this. I chose the wheat toast, which came with a delicious berry jam (boysenberry? huckleberry?) that was both fresh and flavorful.

All in all, this is one of the best breakfasts that I’ve ever had in the Sacramento area, including at home. Halfway through the meal, I exclaimed to my girlfriend that the meal was almost a dilemma, because everything was so good that I couldn’t stop switching entrees.

Their food is worth twice its price, and I will most definitely be back.
